<span style='color:Grey'>Analysts at Symantec Security Response have identified the first virus that attacks PSPs. Trojan.PSPBrick is ranked as a mild threat, but if installed it will erase important files and render your PSP useless.
The only way to be completely safe from the virus is to only download Sony approved firmware says Oliver Friedrichs, senior manager at Symantec Security Response.
“By not using the standard applications that are provided by Sony, you’re exposing yourself to risk,” Friedrichs said.
“By downloading these types of applications and trying to break into the operating system so that you can install what they call 'homebrew applications' you’re also exposing yourself to malicious applications that may damage your device.”
Gamers that still choose to search out emulators and homebrew applications should watch out for the file: EXPLOIT 2G PSP Team V1.RAR
If you do download this virus and your PSP is damaged, don’t look to Sony for help. Any damage resulting from hacks to the PSP are not covered by the warranty.
But will DS owners have to worry about a similar problem once the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is fully operational?
“I suspect that any mobile platform that has a flexible operating system that can run arbitrary applications could be susceptible to these types of threats,” Friedrichs said.
