<span style='color:"Pink"'>Hello TmyApp, thank you for taking your time with us.
You're project is great than any other shockwave I've seen!</span>
<span style='color:Red'>I'm not quite sure about "the greatest", but after 4.5 long years,
it has definitely turned into a very unique online game :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Shall we begin?
Where did your username came from? And why did you chose it?</span>
<span style='color:red'>My username is something I'd like to keep as a "mystery". Those who
have known me for 8+ years (such as one of our other admins, "leftyfb")
do know it's true origin. For all others, I simply leave them guessing
with the hint that the name signifies of who I'm really am :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Did someone inspired you to start this project?</span>
<span style='color:red'>Not "someone" but "something". I walked into the local arcade one day and
saw "×-men vs. Street Fighter" for the first time. My first reaction is
that the idea behind the game was pretty stupid (Street Fighter characters fighting
×-men ?? Not exactly the greatest plot idea). I went home the same day,
and found myself researching the game online (for some unknown reason,
I simply could not get it out of my head). About a year later I've decided to
make a small "tech demo" of a Shockwave game, and somehow, XvsSF
was born from this.</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>When you first made ×-men vs Street Fighter Online, was it out on public
or did you test it out with your friends?</span>
<span style='color:red'>It took about 5 months to create the first public release of XvsSF. Because
of this, a number of people whom I've either known online, or in "real
life" ™
have helped me test super early/unstable pre-alpha releases (leftyfb was
one of these people).</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Answer this if you test it online first: Was the lag/glitch very terrible
or better than the one now and how did it felt when it was released when
you got members joining?</span>
<span style='color:red'>Unfortunately due to the limitations of Shockwave, the game has quite a few
problems (with "Lag" being the greatest). By far, the original version was
1000 times more "buggy" and "laggy" than what you are seeing now. Will
this ever change? Yes! A new "network code" for the game has been on
my "to do" list the last couple of years (but I simply never had the time to
get around to it). I do have a hopes for 2006 however :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Who is this B A R neY?</span>
<span style='color:red'>Barney was the first NPC in the original XvsSF game. He was named after
a character in Half-Life (who was of course based upon a character in the
"Andy Griffith Show"). This "Barney" character (who looked like Ryu) did
only one thing (much like the "Barney" he was named after) ... and that was
to stand still... and be as useless as possible, as he took hit after hit from
the player. (the inside joke is that the term "Barney" is also sometimes used
to refer to "useless" and "poorly coded" NPC characters in most games today)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>When you were making ×-men vs street fighter, how long did it take you to
learn these language c++? Did you take class courses or you decided to
learn by your-self?</span>
<span style='color:red'>It did not take me any time, since I already knew at least 8 programming
languages (including C++) when I began my work on XvsSF. That said,
outside from some "basic classes" (pun intended) in highschool, every
other knowledge of programming that I possess has been self taught.
If you like more technical info: XvsSF/SFO is of course based on the
programming language that is native to Shockwave, with the server
behind it running proprietary software written specifically for the game
in Visual C++, VB and Perl</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Who is your favorite street fighter and marve| character? And why?</span>
<span style='color:red'>The "dark secret" of SFO is that I personally, have never liked Street
Fighter, or any of the Street Fighter characters (in fact, the only reason
we had Ryu in the first place was because I felt it would be wise to implement
the most popular character first, regardless of how i personally felt about
them).
Since XvsSF however, Ryu has definitely became a favorite of mine (the
simplicity and perfection of his moves is simply astounding). But as far as
"favorites" go, I still have to stick with marve| (since I've been a long time
fan of the comic-based ×-men most of my life). And anyone who knows me,
will surely tell you that Scott Summers is still my "top pick" :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Who was your first staff before you decided to promote vip to mod?</span>
<span style='color:red'>"leftyfb" was the first admin/mod (since he was helping the project from
day one). I believe LordCyris was the first one promoted (about a week
after XvsSF was first released). Ewalk soon followed (a person i've known
for a few years at that point). And the rest of the 4 years (and order of
promotions") is really a blur at this point :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>When you received a letter from marve| Company about shutting down your
project, how did you react? Did you also thought that it was the end of
your project?</span>
<span style='color:red'>I wasn't happy, and I was VERY surprised of their attitude towards XvsSF.
I did not expect an "end" to the game, but I did realize that a number of
changes would have to be done.
When talking to marve| directly (and asking them to officially support the
project failed), it was clear that their demands had to be met (to the letter).
Having dealt with lawyers before, this was not much of a problem however.
And as you can tell, everything turned out quite nicely, with both parties
being happy with the results :)
That said, let me say on record that I was the ONLY person who pressed to
preserve XvsSF, and that if I haven't chosen to NOT listen to everyone else
around me, SFO would not be alive today.</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>When you released SFO, did you thought that marve| won't say anything
about it?</span>
<span style='color:red'>Perhaps for the first week. Then the first month. Then the first year. But
after
that, it was clear that they were only interested with shutting down XvsSF,
and that SFO was not considered as a "threat" or a "target" in their books.</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>By looking at your new feature such as rage factor, blurr (when vip does
special), TLF, expert, etc? How did you came up with these and who came upwith these nice features?</span>
<span style='color:red'>Rage Factor was a "fluke". I came up with the idea in literally hours, not
thinking it through, or realizing the impact that it would have on the SFO
community. I then tried to repeat this "process" with TLF (which has pretty much failed miserably
in comparison).
The "blur" effect was also something that was added last minute into one of the
more recent releases of the game. That one was born out of pure "trial and
error", as I played around with new code-based game effects (and seeing what I could
do in the extra hours I had before a new version of SFO went live).
Some other ideas (like DWX) have been literally "years in the making",
while others (like the "mCodes") have been suggested by SFO members on the game's official
forum.
In short, there is no real pattern to how each feature/idea was added, and
each one
has a story behind it :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Have you ever participated in tournaments? If so, which one and how was it?</span>
<span style='color:red'>I think I tried to participate in at least one (during the early years of
XvsSF) but I soon decided against the idea. Playing in tournaments takes time (too much
time). And I would rather spend this time working and improving the game (something
that everyone can enjoy :)
That, and 2 weeks into the release of XvsSF 1.0, it became painfully clear that
being the "creator" of the game, has nothing to do with being the "better
player" (something that Nferno666 can probably tell you about, since he was the very first
person who have beat me ... during that "second week")</span>
Who was your rival and why?
<span style='color:red'>I'm not even sure of how to answer that one... lol. "Rival" as in a person
who tried to create a game that was better or just as good as XvsSF/SFO ?? If so,
such person does not exist (since after 4.5 years, and dozens of people claiming to
achieve such act, not a single "clone" of the game has been made ... let alone something
that is better). I do not see this as proof of me being some "Shockwave guru that
can never be matched", but I do think it is a statement of just how much blood and
sweat has went into SFO, to make it what it is now :)</span>
And as for anyone else who has brushed me the wrong way? I don't really
consider those people as "rivals" :)[/color]
<span style='color:Pink'>Some people don't know this (such as my self) are you a guy or a girl, I
know it's a stupid question, but I can't trust those people. >_> I must
hear it from your self.</span>
<span style='color:red'>Very stupid question indeed... lol. I am a guy. Been one my whole life.
But if I have ever said something that made you or anyone else think
otherwise, please let me know :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>I guess I'll wrap it up. I know people are dying for the update, but
before I wrap it up. Do you think that this update, which is "Weapon X"
will make an impact when you release some new feature, which I know, you
don't wish to share with us?</span>
<span style='color:red'>As I have said many times before (a statement that still stands true): DWX
will be the greatest event in the history of XvsSF/SFO :)
Will I be right? Only time will tell :)</span>
<span style='color:"Pink"'>Well that's pretty much it. Thank you for taking your time TMyApp, it was
an honor getting an interview from you. Hopefully in the near future,
you'll will be willing to work this out again.</span>
<span style='color:red'>Think nothing of it :)
***************************************
***************************************</span>
<span style='color:Red'>ok, that's the "interview" above... it's now 5:29am... i can barely think let
alone type... so, please do me a favour and either let me know if any
of the above makes no sense, or... simply fix the spelling/typo errors
as you see fit :)
