I used to have a DSL router and in my experience once you have ANY router that allows two computers to share internet your pretty screwed... I went through several routers and did just about everything with my settings and I was never able to host or quick game people. http://bbs.projectx.cyberfuturism.com/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

yea, and lets say computer A is downloading a file of about 50 megs. Computer B will be having a real bad time playing on SFO, Counter-Strike or any other game/program.

Is it me or is it that people always know someone who hosted with a router but they almost never can say who it was for sure or how to find him? http://bbs.projectx.cyberfuturism.com/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

im pretty sure i can host from behind a firewall, but then, its a Cisco Pix.
IMO, it depends a lot on the router/firewall being used, and how its configured. If you have access to the router/firewall to configure it, you may be in luck. Things to look at are port forwarding, and NAT.
If you dont have acces to the configuration, youre probably out of luck. But again, its very much a matter of the firewall or router.

You cannot host with a router as your PC won't be directly connecting to the internet. Apparently you can host if you open up a port on your router for a direct connection. I doubt anyone here knows how to though.

as i said in AIM....i'd like to see you TRY. as windarossa said i have also tested and tried tons of routers and port forwarding/opening ports will do nothing for SFO because the ROUTER it'self can't detect when SFO wants access to the ports but a software firewall has no problem detecting it which is why you CAN host with that type of firewall but not a hardware-type firewall. their is even a program out their that might of made it possible but their tech support told me the same thing i told you, for some reason the program doesn't detect when SFO wants access to the ports. Chances are it might be a coding error in SFO or shockwave period, even TMyApp blames shockwave because he believes that their code is not perfect at all which might explain why they dropped the whole multiplayer support from the newer versions of Director Studio which is why he sticks to 8.5 which is pretty old and outdated by now.

Why do you need permission from a mod/admin to post a site that shows you how to forward ports on your router? Just post the link.
